Soft racks are fine for short runs if you run the straps through the cabin, not just the doors. Nose forward, fins up, and a towel under the straps or you'll come home with pressure dings.

Or ask around before buying racks — between my van and the trailer there's usually a club vehicle heading most directions at the weekend.
